What do skunks like to eat the most?


Skunks are omnivorous, eating both plant and animal material and changing their diets as the seasons change. They eat insects and larvae, earthworms, grubs, small rodents, lizards, salamanders, frogs, snakes, birds, moles and eggs. They also commonly eat berries, roots, leaves, grasses, fungi and nuts.

What do skunks eat in the winter?


The young skunks are weaned at 2 months and usually leave to establish their own den by fall. Their diet consists of insects such as crickets, grasshoppers, beetles, cutworms and various insect larvae. They will also sometimes eat poultry, eggs, garden vegetables and fruit.

Can a skunk spray more than once a day?


Skunks are known for their discharge, an obnoxious odor when provoked. This is released primarily in self defense. A skunk can release a spray of oily liquid as far as 10-15 feet and spray up to six times in succession.

What diseases can you get from skunks?


Other zoonotic diseases and parasites carried by skunks include leptospirosis and an intestinal roundworm–Baylisascaris columnaris. These diseases, in addition to distemper, canine hepatitis, fleas, ticks, lice, and mites can cause problems for pets as well.
